The main course was redesigned and redeveloped in the winter of 2006 through to the spring of 2007, at a cost of £1m by Jonathan Gaunt, course architect.

He has added another 1000 yards in distance to the previous layout, adding new greens and tees as well as reconstructing and adding nearly 80 new bunkers. Today the course is almost unrecognisable to the original layout. With substantial investment on course maintenance and new Head Green keeper Antony Kirwan, Lexden Wood is fast becoming Colchester’s premier golf centre.

Lexden Wood now has the reputation of having Greens that are as good as any in Essex, The course has hosted the Essex County Juniors & Colchester Open in 2009 and 2010.

As an undulating parkland course, with many hazards and water features Lexden Wood is a test for golfers of any standard.
